Selank and Semax are two seven amino acid peptides that end in the same three residues, come from the same Russian research tradition, and get described with opposite labels: Selank as the calming one, Semax as the sharpening one. Those labels are shorthand, and this comparison tests them against the papers. Selank is an analog of tuftsin, an immune peptide. Semax is an analog of a fragment of ACTH. They share a Pro-Gly-Pro tail, and they were built from different starting points to answer different questions. This Selank vs Semax comparison covers what each peptide is, what the published studies found, the one study that tested both in the same people, and what to ask of a lab report. Everything below describes laboratory research.
Selank vs Semax: what is the difference?
Selank is studied for anxiety-related effects, with work on how it modulates the GABA receptor system. Semax is studied for cognition and neuroprotection, with work on brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF, and on recovery after ischemic injury. The older Semax literature describes intranasal application, and the fMRI study below used injections. The practical difference is the question each one answers. Selank asks how a peptide might change anxiety-related signaling. Semax asks how a peptide might change the neurotrophin system after stress or injury.
Selank vs Semax side by side
The table holds the facts that rarely change. Selank’s size, price and batch data are pulled live from the product and certificate pages, and the Semax cells say what to ask a seller. Searched as Semax vs Selank, the table is the same.

What Selank is and what its research covers
The most direct mechanism paper is Vyunova and colleagues in Protein and Peptide Letters, a radioligand study showing that Selank acts as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA binding, and that it acts jointly with some benzodiazepines. That is a membrane-preparation result, not a behavior result. Kasian and colleagues in Behavioural Neurology found that Selank enhanced the effect of diazepam in reducing anxiety in rats under unpredictable chronic mild stress, and Konstantinopolsky and colleagues reported it attenuated aversive signs of morphine withdrawal in rats. The Selank peptide benefits page goes through the rest.
What Semax is and what its research covers
Dolotov and colleagues in Brain Research reported that a single Semax application raised BDNF protein 1.4-fold and TrkB phosphorylation 1.6-fold in the rat hippocampus, along with a rise in conditioned avoidance reactions. Dmitrieva and colleagues found that Semax and its Pro-Gly-Pro fragment activated neurotrophin and receptor gene transcription after cerebral ischemia in rats. The human work is a study in 110 patients after ischemic stroke, where those given Semax showed higher plasma BDNF and better Barthel index scores. It is a Russian-language paper, and the abstract doesn’t describe blinding, so it can’t carry much weight. A newer 2025 paper in the British Journal of Pharmacology reports a spinal cord injury effect in rodents. The Semax peptide benefits page covers the compound in plain language.
The one study that tested Selank and Semax in the same people
The closest thing to a head-to-head is Panikratova and colleagues’ functional connectomics study. They gave 52 healthy participants Semax, Selank or placebo and ran resting-state fMRI before, and 5 and 20 minutes after, the injection. They found differences in connectivity between the right amygdala and a region of the right temporal cortex, and defined both general and specific effects for the two peptides. It’s an acute brain imaging result in healthy volunteers. It says the two peptides produce a measurable change in a region tied to anxiety regulation. It doesn’t say they change anxiety or cognition, and it doesn’t show one is better than the other.
Anxiolytic and nootropic: labels, not findings
The tidy split of Selank as anxiolytic and Semax as nootropic comes from how the two were developed, not from a clean pair of experiments. Selank has cognition papers and Semax has stress papers, and the fMRI study found shared effects as well as separate ones. When a page says one calms and the other focuses, it is summarizing an intent. The evidence supports a looser statement: each has a mechanism paper, animal work in its own area, and a small amount of human work that doesn’t settle the question. The nootropic peptides guide covers the category.
The shared Pro-Gly-Pro tail
Both sequences finish with proline, glycine, proline, and the tail is more than a coincidence of naming. Dmitrieva and colleagues reported that Pro-Gly-Pro on its own, the C-terminal fragment of Semax, activated neurotrophin gene transcription after cerebral ischemia in rats, so the tail carries activity in its own right. Whether the tail does anything in Selank’s case isn’t something the papers cited here test. It means a reader shouldn’t assume that the shared ending makes the two peptides behave alike, and shouldn’t assume it makes them different. The front half of each molecule, a tuftsin-derived stretch in Selank and an ACTH-derived stretch in Semax, is the part the original designers chose to answer different questions.
Reading forum threads on Selank vs Semax
Most online comparisons of the two are anecdotes: one person felt calmer on one and more alert on the other. That’s a fair thing to report and a poor basis for a conclusion, since expectation, timing and the rest of someone’s day all change how a person reports an effect. The papers are the better filter. For any claim, find the study, check which peptide it used, in which species, by which route, and over what period. Where the answer is a rat hippocampus, the claim is a rat hippocampus claim. Where it is 52 healthy volunteers and a brain scan, the claim is about connectivity in a scan, and no further.
Selank and Semax together
People pair the two because the labels look complementary. No paper cited here gives them together, and the fMRI study gave each separately. A design that wanted to probe both mechanisms in the same model could run them as separate arms plus a combined arm, so any effect can be traced to its source. That is also an argument for sourcing them as separate vials, not a pre-mixed product.
Selank vs Semax in women’s research
The fMRI study’s abstract doesn’t report results by sex, and most of the animal work doesn’t either. Anxiety-related signaling and stress responses differ between men and women, so a woman framing her own research question will want sex-stratified data, which is thin for both peptides. The Selank research in women section of the benefits guide goes through what the studies leave open.
What the Selank and Semax studies can’t tell you
Much of the literature is rodent work from a small number of laboratories, and independent replication is limited. The membrane results from Vyunova are in vitro. The Semax stroke study is a small clinical report with an unclear control design. The fMRI study is acute and in healthy volunteers. Intranasal application in the older Semax work is a different thing from a lyophilized vial reconstituted in a laboratory, so a result in one format doesn’t carry to the other. Treat everything here as a statement about published papers.
Selank COA: what a lab report shows, and what to ask for on Semax
Every Healio Peptides batch is tested by an independent US laboratory before release, and the report is published before you order. This is the current Selank batch.
| Selank | |
|---|---|
| Batch | HEALIO-SLNK-2611 |
| Purity (HPLC) | 99.3% |
| Identity (ESI-MS) | Confirmed, conforms to the reference standard (751.88) |
| Endotoxins (LAL) | Under 0.5 EU/mg (limit 5 EU/mg) |
The same four lines are what to ask for from any seller of Semax. Because Semax is sold in several forms, including modified and acetylated variants, ask which molecule the identity result confirms. A heptapeptide is long enough to leave room for synthesis errors, so identity is the row to read closely. Reading a peptide certificate of analysis explains each row.
Selank price and format
Healio Peptides lists Selank as a 10mg vial, lyophilized powder, at $38.99, which is $3.90 per mg. Semax strengths and prices vary by seller, so compare cost per milligram. Reconstitution uses bacteriostatic water for sale, and the Selank calculator turns vial strength and water volume into a concentration. How to reconstitute peptides covers the handling.
Where to buy Selank for research
Whatever you source, look for a published certificate before anything else, and match the lot number to the vial. Every Healio Peptides Selank batch ships with a third-party report, and orders go out from the United States. The Selank for sale page carries the certificate before you order, and the peptides for energy category shows the neighboring compounds.
Selank vs Semax: frequently asked questions
Is Selank or Semax better?
Neither wins on the evidence. Selank is studied for anxiety-related signaling and Semax for BDNF and neuroprotection, and the only study that tested both was an acute fMRI study in 52 healthy volunteers.
What is the difference between Selank and Semax?
Selank is a tuftsin analog and Semax is an ACTH(4-10) analog. Both are seven amino acid peptides ending in Pro-Gly-Pro, and they were developed for different research questions.
Can Selank and Semax be studied together?
Researchers pair them because the labels look complementary, but direct testing of the combination is missing from the papers cited here. Separate vials let each arm be set on its own.
What did the Selank and Semax brain imaging study find?
In 52 healthy participants, both peptides changed resting-state connectivity between the right amygdala and the right temporal cortex, with some general and some peptide-specific effects. It didn’t measure anxiety or cognition outcomes.
Are Selank and Semax FDA approved?
Nothing on this page is a statement about any product’s legal status or medical advice. Healio Peptides sells Selank strictly for laboratory research, and the studies described here are published research, not guidance.
Do Selank and Semax reviews tell me anything useful?
Reviews mix different products, forms and expectations, so they say little about any one vial. A batch certificate says more: it ties a purity and identity result to a lot number you can check.
